Using relays to switch AC voltages through an electronic control is common practice. Relays are simple to use but they are slow and have a shorter lifespan. Replacing relays with a triac, such as the K2643, can solve this issue as triacs are electrically isolated by optocouplers and thus less sensitive to interference. The K2643 is controlled by current rather than voltage and can be used with a control current between 10 and 20mA DC. The quad triac card has four outputs and four control LEDs. With less interference sensitivity, the triac can be mounted near the load and further from the control circuit. Connect this card to Velleman kits such as the K8000, K8050, K8023, K8055, and any others with an an open collector output and improve the longevity of your circuit.
